The rural homestead at 830 Springs-Fireplace Road in Springs, East Hampton, that is now the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center dates back to the late 19th century. The land was purchased in 1878 by James S. Corwin, a local fisherman, who built a house on the 1 ¼ acre lot. (A collar tie in the attic bears the date 1879). In 1888, Mr. Corwin sold the property to Adeline H. King, who sold it two years later to David Howard, another fisherman. His son John Howard and his family lived in the house until 1926, when David Howard sold the property to John Quinn, who worked for the town highway department. His son Howard Quinn inherited it in 1933, and after his death in 1944 his estate put it on the market.

Robert Miller Gallery was established in 1977 to encourage the reappraisal of underrepresented voices in contemporary art and provide a platform for a critical re-thinking of the 20th century canon. Over the years, the gallery has established an international reputation by working directly with some of the most important and influential artists of the last three decades including Yayoi Kusama, Ai Wei Wei, Louise Bourgeois, David Hockney, Leon Kossoff, Lee Krasner, Patti Smith, Robert Mapplethorpe, Joan Mitchell, Alice Neel, Georgia O’Keeffe, Andy Warhol, and Tom Wesselmann, and with the estates of Diane Arbus, Eva Hesse and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Today the gallery continues to promote the careers of underrepresented, mid-career, and established artists; build public and private collections; organize significant exhibitions with other galleries; and facilitate museum shows and scholarly publications.

American Contemporary Art Gallery (ACA) was established in 1932 by Herman Baron. Artists Stuart Davis, Yasuo Kuniyoshi and Adolf Dehn were early members. At the time, ACA was one of only three galleries in New York primarily dedicated to exhibiting the work of American artists. Over the years ACA's breadth and scope expanded. The gallery continues to fulfill its mission to support and exhibit some of the most important contemporary and historic artists in the field.
