Astron and Dorea, beginning in 2003-06, still employed the matrix of intertwining bands of color which served as both background and foreground. Fully formed islands of color, some opaque, some transparent, now compete with and compliment the intertwining bands of color. The look is more evocative of mobile constellations be they of microscopic size or sized according to stellar units of measure.

Also introduced are vertical elements that are reminiscent of my Pillar Series from the late 1980’s. A dynamic relationship is being established between the formal structures of the repeated vertical forms, and the exuberant painterly gestures of the curvilinear lines. Viewers can enjoy the surface or look beyond it to discover an optical realm of forms that alternately hide or reveal themselves to the eye and the imagination. These paintings build on the past but constitute a dramatic turn towards the future. They are strong and elegant and they are fun.
